Dr Whiting on Soy VS Whey Protein

0 Dr Whiting on Soy VS Whey Proteinhttp://phoenixnutritionals.com (CLICK HERE)

There has been a lot of discussion about protein requirements for the human body. In order to maintain lean muscle mass the average person needs around 80 grams of protein every day. There are many sources of protein, the most common of which are from either animal or vegetable sources. Many people choose to rely on a protein concentrate or a protein shake. These usually come as either a soy protein or a whey protein. Soy protein is a natural choice for those wishing to avoid animal derived proteins. In order to meet protein needs, these shakes have become very popular. Protein digestion is often a problem for people as they grow older and these pre-digested protein shakes offer an easy to digest alternative. In spite of Soy protein’s continued popularity, there are some decided negatives to its concentrated use. The dangers of soy protein include incomplete protein ingestion, contamination, and most especially an increased intake of estrogen-like compounds, which can raise the estrogen levels of both women and men. The link between estrogen and soy is well established. Our environment provides too much estrogen mimicking chemicals in the form of chemo-estrogens from plastics as an example. The addition of estrogen from soy makes an already serious problem much worse. Since protein has many uses in the body, all of which are vital to both health and longevity, it is easy to understand why people gravitate to soy, which is much cheaper than other forms of protein concentrates. If you were wishing to avoid animal derived protein, a much better alternative to the dangers of soy protein would be rice protein, available in most health food stores. The link between estrogen compounds and soy is significant and these compounds have been linked subsequently to cancer of the breast and ovaries. Whey protein is probably one of the most perfect sources of protein. Whey protein is easy to digest, especially in the pre-digested shakes on the market. The benefits of whey are also many. Whey protein provides complete protein to the body, which means that all the protein is available to the cells of the body. Whey protein digestion is very easy on the body and hence this from of protein easily can meet all the uses of protein in the body. Another benefit of whey protein is its connection with the immune system. Whey protein stimulates and nourishes the immune system. The link between whey protein and the immune system is well documented. Whey protein has none of the negative effects of soy, as it does not contribute any estrogen compounds to the chemistry of the body. Our first choices of protein concentrates are from whey protein.
